Yin and Yang is a kind of philosophical thought created by the ancient Chinese people. Ancient Chinese believed that there were Yin and Yang in everything. Yin and Yang can mark opposite things or phenomena as well as two internal opposite aspects of the same thing or phenomenon.
The Yin and Yang which can permeate all aspects of traditional Chinese medicine is widely used in Traditional Chinese medicine. Although traditional Chinese medicine is complicated, it can be summarized by yin and yang. Therefore, the “Huangdi Neijing” says: “Life is tangible, inseparable from yin and yang.” A healthy body depends on the balance of yin and yang in it. If yin and yang are out of balance, people will get sick.
In terms of tangible body structure, the back is yang, the abdomen is yin; the upper is yang, the lower is yin; For the internal organs, the viscera (heart, spleen, liver, lungs and kidneys) are the yin, the six hollow organs (gallbladder, stomach, large intestine, small intestine, bladder and sanjiao 三焦)are yang. The meridians of the human body are also divided into Yin and Yang. For four seasons, spring and summer are yang, autumn and winter are yin. For a day, daytime is yang, night is yin.Hot is yang and cold is yin.
Chinese medicine doctors use observation, smell, inquiry, and cutting to diagnose diseases collect various data, and distinguish the attributes by yin and yang. For example, the color is divided into yin and yang, and the bright color means the disease belongs to yang; the dull color means the disease belongs to yin. Voice is divided into yin and yang: those with high-pitched and loud voices and agitated are yang; those with weak voices are yin.
The process of TCM treatment is to adjust yin and yang to restore the relative balance of yin and yang.
